Why I won't eat at the Big Rapids Wendy's

PhotobucketWell, last Sunday I drove Amanda in to work at Wendy's.  A couple of hours later she called me to pick her up.  I knew something was amiss.  She came out got in the van and started crying.  She had been fired.  I asked her what happened.  There were five people working in the store.  2 managers, a grill person, a sandwich maker, and Amanda at the front register.  One manager was taking orders and giving change at the first drive-thru, one manager was handing food out the second drive-thru, of course you know what the grill and sandwich person were doing.  Amanda was taking orders, giving change, getting drinks, making frostys, and all of the other things the front register person does (more than any other worker at that particular time).  She asked for help from a manager because she had an order for something she had never been trained to do and because she felt she could not "keep up."  The manager from the first drive-thru came up and proceeded to tell her that she should know these things, she was too slow, and she could not continue to ask for help.  This was all in front of customers in line.  Then in an apparent fit of frustration with Amanda she fired her, also in front of the customers.  So...Amanda called me and then went and sat in the lobby to wait for me to pick her up.  Some of the customers who witnessed the "firing" came over and told Amanda they could not believe how mean those "people" were.  When we got home I told Amanda to take off that horrible Wendy's shirt and never put it back on again:D  I have worked for Wendy's as a Manager and know that this is not the way Cooperate would like there franchises run.  The job was pretty horrible but Bill and I took the "tough it out approach."  So... after reading this Mom's rant now you know why my family will not eat at the Big Rapids Wendy's again!

Commom Sence Parenting - Think About It!

PhotobucketFlash mobs - Where are the parents of these children?  Where were they when it was time to teach right and wrong?  If your 12 year old child comes home with a flat screen TV would it not occur to you to ask about it?  Maybe the parents of these children should be held accountable.  I know my kids got away with things they should not have, that's part of the growing up process.  However, I also know that they had a certain fear of their Dad and I finding out and that is the way it should be.  When Bill and I were in the process of adopting we had to do extensive surveys and interviews.  Bill was red flagged because he was not willing to negotiate or compromise on some issues.  When they questioned him about this he said when I am in the Walmart parking lot and I tell my kid to stop they are going to do it because they know they have to.  So...my kid is going to be safer than the kid who thinks ever issue can be negotiated and compromised on.
Final thought - Parents, if you don't make your kids mind at home please don't take them in to  public and expect them to behave, it is not fair to them!  Children are a precious gift and it is the parents responsibility to keep them safe.  You must be their parent first and then their friend!

Education

September is approaching and that means school will be starting.  Just a thought on Special Education - My "regular" ed children would have done fine without their advanced classes and vocational training, my "special" ed student will struggle in life without  extensive life skills training.  I don't think  parents of  "regular" ed students or even "gifted" students realize the challenges of preparing a "special" ed student for living in their least restrictive environment.  We all want the best for our kids and for them to be as successful and content as they can be!

Getting Started

Think About It is a term I have used for years with evolving meanings.  I love to learn and share about families, education, creating, and common sence.  Let's  see where this goes!
